Turning a negative situation into a positive situation is exactly what rapper Grieves did with his most recent album “Together/Apart” that came out June 21st. After touring for his previous album “88 Keys and Counting”,  he returned back home to a desolated relationship and drug problems. But he took all those struggles, hurts and emotions and put it towards the creation of an album, and an amazing one at that.

“It took a lot of faith to fight my battles and tackle a couple of habits I never thought that I'd have to.” - Grieves

This album exemplifies how some artists find themselves feeling isolated and lonely, during and after touring, due being apart from their families and friends for so long. Songs like Falling From You, Heartbreak Hotel, and Growing Pains, are emotion filled tracks that reveal Grieves’ thought process regarding the situation he found himself in when returning home. Then you got a song like Sunny Side of Hell that is the epitome of turning something negative into something positive and even inspiring. He repeats the line “You are not alone” multiple times in the song, to emphasize and give encouragement to those who have been through the same or similar situations as he’s been.

“Now the dark days are gone and the bright days are here and my sunny side shines.” - Grieves

“Together/Apart is musical therapy for those who find themselves caught under the pressures of life” - Edwin Ortiz (hiphopdx.com). So go ahead buy the album, lay back with your iPod and headphones, and indulge in the best type of therapy there is.
