Who is Mac Miller? "A voice of just a regular kid". In the song "Get Em Up" off of his brand spankin' new mixtape K.I.D.S (Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit) released back in August. Mac Miller says his sound is like Justin Bieber meets Jadakiss. This Pittsburgh native is fresh out of high school and is ready to change the hip hop game drastically. He has put out simplistic and youthful videos to complement K.I.D.S including "Senior Skip Day" , "Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza", and "Nikes on my Feet" .
Most of the songs on K.I.D.S are all about being young and having fun, but its in "Poppy" where we begin to see Mac Miller's serious side. He immediately catches listeners with the opening line "Hello death it seems that we meet again/ You keep taking friends that I'll never see again". The song talks about his deceased grandmother and what it feels like to lose that one person who really understands you. After listening to the mixtape it becomes very clear what his motive is and that is: DOPE MUSIC. "Music is what I love. Take that away from me and I really got nothing."
Mac Miller is currently touring the nation and is pristine to the hip hop game, but with his motivation and dedication it seems like Mac Miller will be here to stay. He is signed to Rostrum Records and will record an album early next year. He has 48,152 followers on Twitter and has over 1 million views on Youtube. Numerous websites, including XXLmag.com, worldstarhiphop.com.and soulbounce.com, have named him someone to watch in hip-hop. In a recent interview with swizzer.com, Miller states "You set these goals that are out of reach, and the people around me tell me its out of reach, then things pop up and you don't expect them". Mac Miller is extremely dedicated and is willing to put in the work in order to be successful. We can only expect great things from Miller in the future, but in the meantime, we can finally start Kickin' Incredibly Dope Shit.
